Bob Thomas

president & ceo

Furniture is in Bob’s blood — and his bloodline. Bob represents the fourth generation of his furniture family and built a successful career inside and outside the family business, putting his background in Management and Accounting to good use. He oversees the company’s finances and human resources and plays a large part in selecting merchandise as well as steering marketing and advertising. But he’s not above unloading trucks and attending to computer issues.

Bob loves watching creativity in action and sees it daily on the showroom floor as the RJ Thomas design consultants collaborate with designers on their projects. He’s extremely proud of the work his talented team does and is pleased to be able to offer them a satisfying, creative environment to come to each day.

Quick Q&A with Bob

What do you consider a timeless design trend?

Clean-line traditional

Of all you own, what is your favorite piece of furniture?

An early 19th Century oak icebox. I traded a hunting rifle (which was never used on a deer) for the ice box and a painting. I don’t know what happened to the painting, but the icebox has been a prominent piece in 10 different houses and is now my black cat Boo’s favorite place to sleep.

Describe your personal style.

Casual and comfortable, but typically high quality.

How would a designer describe you?

Rumpled, but loveable and knowledgeable.

What is your biggest design pet peeve?

Too much clutter. A close second would be pictures hung too high.
